ENSEMBLESCraven Crotchets | Junior String Ensemble | Orchestra Craven Crotchets 9.30 a.m. - 10.30 a.m. Craven Crotchets, Musical fun for Young Children (from 2 ½ years). This Junior String Ensemble 9.15 a.m. - 10.45 a.m. The Junior String Ensemble is geared towards giving young children their first experience of shared music making. The children develop musically through playing a wide variety of music from the classical composers to music specially written for junior string ensembles. Many of the Junior String Ensemble will later gain valuable orchestral experience in the Intermediate Orchestra. We would encourage members of this group to stay on until 12.30 p.m. to take part in the Music Centre choir where much fun will be had and a very valuable aural training gained. Orchestra 9.30 a.m. - 10.45 a.m. The Intermediate Orchestra aims to provide experience of orchestral playing for those progressing from the Junior String ensemble and Junior Wind Band. The repertoire is quite extensive thus giving the members of the orchestra a taste of many different styles of music. The standard required for entry to the orchestra is approximately grade 2 for strings and grade 4 for woodwind. The orchestra has about 25 members and performs both at Music Centre concerts and local concerts. Junior Wind Band 9.30 a.m. - 10.45 a.m. To many of it's members the Junior Wind Band is very often the first experience of playing in a large ensemble. Woodwind and brass players will normally have been playing for six months to a year before joining the band where they will develop their general musical skills alongside the technical improvements that are enhanced by the new experience of group music making. We would encourage members of this group to stay on until 12.30 p.m. to take part in the Music Centre choir where much fun will be had and a very valuable aural training gained. Wind and String Chamber ensembles 11.15 a.m. - 12.00 For half the morning our wind and string players play in smaller groups where they continue to develop the essential musical skills needed in ensemble playing. Chamber music is on a smaller scale than orchestral or band repertoire and these two ensembles begin to explore the wealth of music that exists for smaller groups of instruments. Wind Band 9.30 a.m. - 10.45 The Intermediate Wind Band is made up of woodwind, brass and percussion players who will either have progressed through the Junior Band or be of approximately Associated Board Grade III standard or above. The band aims to cover a wide repertoire while continuing to train students in ensemble discipline and encouraging musical progress. The band has approximately 45 members and as well as performing regularly at Music Centre concerts has appeared at a variety of local events. Senior Big Band and Junior Big Band 11.15 a.m. - 12.00 The Jazz Orchestra is made up of the saxophone, brass and rhythm sections of the wind band. Jazz is exciting music and fun to play. The name jazz covers a wide
range of styles including Blues, Big Band and Rock and Roll. We have
a go at them all! You will learn the techniques of jazz improvisation
and will enjoy playing with others who are learning to cross over the
frontier into jazz land. Guitar Ensemble 9.15 a.m. - 10.45 a.m. The guitar ensemble will give pupils of various levels the chance to make music together. It will include players of ranging experience enabling those with more advanced skills to inspire those who may be younger and with a less developed technique. Playing at the Music Centre will give our local guitarists the chance to enhance their reading skills, rhythm and control of tone while at the same time giving them the enjoyment and fun that is gained through music making. Music Centre Choir 11.00 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. This is for girls and boys aged 8 years upwards. Every child has a singing voice, easily transportable and costs nothing to buy! The choir will aim to progress from unison to part singing, with the repertoire ranging from folk and classical to modern shows and jazz. Arts Award 11.00 a.m. - 12.00 p.m. Skipton Music Centre will be offering students the chance to participate in Arts Award.
